At the YMCA, we strive to create an inclusive environment where every child can participate fully in our programs. We welcome child aides/paraprofessionals who provide support for children with specific needs. Guidelines for participation: 1) Aides may accompany children into YMCA programs with prior approval from YMCA staff. 2) The aide’s role is to provide direct support for the child, ensuring their safety, comfort, and participation. 3) Aides are expected to remain with the child at all times during programming. 4) Aides must complete all YMCA volunteer requirements (such as background checks, paperwork, and orientation) before attending programming. YMCA staff remain responsible for overall program supervision, but the aide is responsible for the individual support of the child. This partnership allows us to better serve children with unique needs while maintaining a safe, positive, and engaging experience for all participants.
